CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF BANGALORE, INDIA

I taught in a self-contained classroom of 18 students composed of 9 different nationalities. The school followed the Ontario Curriculum as set by the Government of Ontario, Canada.

2004 - 2006
Substitute Teacher

Grade 4 Teacher

AMERICAN SCHOOL FOUNDATION OF MONTERREY, MEXICO

In the months leading up to the birth of my first son, I offered my experience and expertise at the Grade 4 level. This proved to be helpful as my successor had to go on short-term health leave and I was able to start the school year off successfully for her.

I taught all core subjects to a class of 20 multinational students. There were seven sections at this grade level, so I worked with our team to develop units of study that would provide meaningful, child-centred experiences yet also coordinate objectives, activities and assessment.

1998

1997 - 1998

Grade 4 Teacher

Spanish Teacher

ST. KENTIGERN SCHOOL, AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND

I taught a class of 30 students, aged 9 & 10, at this private boys' Presbyterian school. Whilst following New Zealand curriculum, I also shared my varied cultural experiences with them through such integrated units as the Aztecs & Inuits.

Drawing upon my language ability from having lived in South America, I developed and taught a Beginner Spanish course for the two Grade 5 classes.

1995 - 1996
Grade 7 Teacher ST . PETER'S COLLEGE, AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND

I worked as a long-term reliever at this Catholic boys' school for the last term of the school year. I impressed administration and parents with the turnaround in behaviour and academic accomplishments of this difficult class.

1995
Grade 5 Teacher

INTER-AMERICAN ACADEMY, GUAYAQUIL, ECUADOR

I taught in a self-contained classroom of 20 international students, aged 10 - 11, being responsible for all core subjects. I designed, planned and implemented integrated units, with a particular emphasis on writing and integrating Social Studies and Language Arts. Used various strategies to cater to a wide range of English abilities. Highlights included a simulation Columbus ocean trip, King James land charter ceremony and an Electricity Fair.

1993 - 1995

Grade 1 Teacher

Grade 2 Teacher

COLEGIO KARL C. PARRISH, BARRANQUILLA, COLOMBIA

I taught in a self-contained classroom of 30 Colombian 6 & 7 year olds, assisted by an aide. By the end of the year, these ESL students learned to read and write as a result of theme-based whole language units. Emphasized hands-on learning with math manipulatives for basic adding, subtraction and place value.

I moved up from Grade 1 with the same group of 30 children. Team teaching and experiential learning was the focus of this year, with such events as our Community Fair and Colombia Quiz Bowl.

Having worked overseas for 9 years, when I returned to Canada my new job description was stay-at-home mum to 3 boys born within 3 years… In order to save my sanity and still manage to keep my teacher organisational skills alive during the enriching (but exhausting) Toddler Years, I volunteered to be the President of the local branch affiliated with the National Newcomers Club of Canada. Under my leadership, membership grew from 15 to 55, and flourished with a plethora of well-planned social events and activities.
