Student Assessment in Integrated Math 3

I will be using a variety of assessment strategies, whether it be the regular tests, quizzes, assignments and homework, or other creative manners through with can demonstrate your mastery of skills/concepts (i.e. model building, producing videos/movies, teaching peers, etc ...)

The percentage grade you earn in each semester of the course is comprised of the following:

MAJOR Assessments

These major assessments are usually in the form of summative Unit Tests or Unit Assignments/Projects that take place at the end of each major unit and evaluate students' understanding of a wide range of concepts learned over a period of 4-6 weeks.

45%

MINOR Assessments

These minor assessments are usually in the form of quizzes that occur within a unit and evaluate students' understanding of a narrower range of concepts learned over a period of several weeks. Minor Assessments could also take the form of assignments which will range in degrees of complexity and time commitments. Daily assignments happen within the time frame of ONE CLASS PERIOD. Weekly assignments happen within the time frame of ONE WEEK.

PCPR (Preparation, Contribution/Classwork & Participation, Reflection)

Preparation for class includes:

Video Notes & Quizzes - These assessment tasks are one form of direct instruction for this semester and focus on watching videos that directly deal with algebraic processes in Math. Students take notes as they record the developing examples and then are quizzed on the math skill the next period

Homework - Homework tasks are designed to practice concepts learned in recent lessons. Since mistakes are considered to be an important part of the learning process, homework tasks are graded on completion and effort rather than the accuracy of the work.

Test Preparation Submissions - This requirement will see students submitting written evidence of having prepared for unit tests & quizzes

Class Participation & Contribution - When class time is given for concept development discussions & explorations, class work & for assignments, students are expected to be on task and to be contributing to the development of the skill/topic within their groups & within the class. Participation & contribution is graded according to the linked rubric

Reflection - Students will be asked to write & participate in periodic reflections upon their learning and their progress. One such example will be Test Corrections/Reflections

All work will be evaluated for some or all of the following assessment criteria:

(1) Knowledge/Understanding of skills and concepts

(2) Application of the skills/concepts in modeling scenarios

(3) Thinking/Inquiry/Problem Solving related to either pure or applied math

(4) Your ability to communicate your knowledge
