REMEMBER the Trig Functions Unit PROJECT. The details of the project are linked and the scoring rubric is posted as well. The KEY DATES are (i) your topic and data set must be selected & approved prior to April 2. FINAL submission of Assignment is Sunday, April 26

One major point in this assignment is learning HOW to WRITE and PRESENT math, as all of you will be expected to know HOW TO WRITE AND PRESENT math "essays" in IB maths next year. Here are various exemplars of WELL PRESENTED written Math projects from past students:

Exemplar #1 (a quadratics project); Exemplar #2 (a stats project); Exemplar #3 (a linear systems project)

Here are some examples of how NOT TO PRESENT a Math project: Exemplar #4 (a stats project); and Exemplar #5 (an exponential functions project).

Mar 26

Here are some suggestions for preparing for Wed/Thurs Unit Test on Trigonometry:

(1) For Triangle Trig ==> Worksheet from Kutasoftware

(2) For Triangle Trig Word Probs ==> Worksheet from from Lesson 5.5 or work some questions from Nelson 10, Chapter 7 & 8 Chapter Review Exercises (p417, Q12,14,15 & p453, Q6,10,11)

For Sinusoidal Functions ==> From Nelson 11 Chap 6 Review, Q2,3,4,5,9a,10a,12b,13 & Q1,2,4bcd on Self Test

Welcome back to Semester 2. I hope you had a good holiday break.

Your first 2 assignments for SEM 2 are the following two surveys: (1) an opportunity to reflect upon SEMESTER 1 of the course and (2) an opportunity to set some goals for SEMESTER 2 of this course. Both surveys are due by the end of the week.

Dec 18

For those of you who wish to get a head start in our next unit, we will be studying Polynomial Functions next. Our three "BIG PICTURE" ideas will be (i) Applications/Modeling with Polynomial Functions, (ii) Graphical Explorations of Polynomial Functions and (iii) Algebra of Polynomial Functions.

If you wish to get started, here is a link to Math Is Fun's page (scroll down to Polynomial Functions) and here are some links to Khan Academy's video series dealing with some Polynomial Function concepts:VIDEO #1 on Terminology ; and then VIDEO #2 on Polynomial Division ; and then VIDEO #3 on Polynomial Factoring ; and then VIDEO #4 on Behaviour of Polynomial Functions.

Dec 2

TO START PREPARING for our Dec TEST/EXAM, here are several suggestions to guide your preparation:

Here is a list of learning objectives for our Units on Quadratics & Functions

(1) To review/consolidate your understanding of our work with Quadratic Functions, here is the Nelson 10 Chap 6 REV section. On pages 361,362, you could work through Q1ace, 2, 3ace, 4ace, 5, 6, 8ace, 9, 10, 11ace, 14, 15, 18 .You could also complete the Chapter Self Test, Q1-9. ANSWERS are linked here.

(2) To review/consolidate your understanding of our work with Functions, you should review (i) Transformations, (ii) Composition & (iii) Inverses by working through some of these linked worksheets or by revisiting some of the assigned homework from previous lesson Homework Assignments
